OT: Pray for my mom.

I don't know why I'm just now getting around to this...

My mom went in for surgery about two weeks ago for some problems (ongoing) she's had from years, dealing with scar tissue that's mostly built up because my brother and I were both cesarians (sp?).

She's gone in for this before--they remove as much of it as they can and place some sort of barrier to prevent the tissue from entangling other organs as best they can.

This time they had to cut away part of her intestine. She came home and seemed alright, but a few days later she felt horrible. When I was away for the weekend, her cut started to open and she had to be taken back to the hospital.

She's now been told that due to some infection, she will not be able to eat or drink anything for four MONTHS. Not even water. She is going to have to follow a schedule for feeding herself through her veins, and I can't even imagine what that's going to be like. (especially with Thanksgiving and Christmas on the way.)

She should be home in the next few days. I'm going to go see her in not to long with my dad. (the hospital isn't very local.)

I'm bringing Kit for her, who was her mother's day present from me, and Kit's story collection which I bought for her today.

Any prayers or warm wishes heading her way would be most welcome.

Oh Janine, I'm so sorry for your mom! What a horrible situation! Of course, I will pray for her and your dad too!

But, at least the doctors think she will be ok and she can be at home while she is recovering! I'm a former hospital social worker, and I don't know if my advice will be of any help at all, but tell your mom & dad to see if their insurance will cover home health care for her. I'm sure your family will get some training on how to do the IV feeding but hopefully an RN can come out to the house too to make sure everything is going ok! Maybe she'd even qualify for a home choreworker to assist with light household tasks too. It never hurts to ask because those services can really be great.

I think there are several RN's here on HB, hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will read this too and can give you some other advice.

Be sure to keep us updated on how she is doing!

Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry for your mom. I can't imagine not being able to eat or drink anything for four months! But I'm glad her infection is treatable and that she will be okay. [img]graemlins/rose.gif[/img] I hope she feels better soon!

I'm so sorry to hear about this. But you sound nothing but extremely thoughtful. Your mother is lucky to have a family who cares so much for her! Best wishes for a quick recovery.
